What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a titanium post anchored in the jawbone to replace the root portion of the missing tooth. Over time, the implant fixture fuses with the jawbone to form one biological structure through a process called osseointegration. This fusion holds the implant in place to support one or more prosthetic teeth.
After fusion, the dentist attaches an abutment to the implant fixture to link it with a custom-made dental crown. Dental implants are versatile and can even replace several consecutive missing teeth by supporting a dental bridge. However, in cases where all teeth in one or both arches are lost, we offer tailored dentures to restore your smile.
ACTUAL PATIENT BEFORE AND AFTER RESULTS
What can I expect from the dental implant procedure?
The dental implant treatment starts with a consultation to establish your eligibility for implantology. The objective is to ensure you have good oral health and a healthy bone to support an implant.
If you are eligible for an implant, we’ll refer you to a qualified oral surgeon for implant surgery. The oral surgeon will use modern anesthetics and possibly sedation dentistry to ensure you have a pain-free experience. If you have severe bone loss, the doctor may administer bone grafting to stabilize your bone for an implant.
After the implant surgery, the doctor will leave the implant for four to six months to heal and fuse with the bone. After this period, you’ll return to the oral surgeon to attach an abutment. Unlike implant surgery, placing an abutment is a minor procedure that only requires two weeks to heal.
After the implant and abutment placement, you’ll come to our office to restore your implant(s) with a porcelain crown, bridge, or denture. Dental implants closely mimic the appearance and function of natural teeth, providing a permanent and durable solution for missing teeth.
