Post-Operative Instructions for a Permanent Onlay

After your onlay is placed, it is important to follow these care instructions to ensure the long-term success of your new restoration. Immediately after your onlay placement, it is important to avoid eating or drinking until the anesthesia has worn off to prevent possible injury to your lips, tongue, and cheeks.

It’s normal to experience some sensitivity to pressure, heat and cold for several days following the procedure, but this should pass as your mouth adapts to your new onlay. If you experience discomfort you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed. Your finished restoration may be shaped slightly different than your original tooth. Your tongue may magnify these small differences, but you will become accustomed to them within a few days.

Daily home care will increase the longevity of your new onlay. You should resume regular brushing and flossing immediately to keep your onlay free of plaque buildup and decay. If your bite feels uneven, or if you experience persistent pain or sensitivity outside of the norm, it is important to contact our office for assistance.

Dr. Lepore and his entire staff are the best I have ever encountered. They have guided and comforted me through a grueling series of dental procedures. Because of past experiences, I had developed an extreme fear of any visit to a dentist. Thanks to Lepore Dentistry I no longer dread going to the dentist. They are able to offer superb skilled service while maintaining a warm and welcoming environment. I highly recommend Dr. Lepore and his amazing staff for your dental needs.
